Introduction Of Shapes For Kids
Everything we see in the world around us has a shape. Here we will discuss simple shapes like circle, square, rectangle, semicircle, triangle, oval, pentagon, hexagon.
Rectangle
The rectangle is a 2D shape. It has four sides. And the opposite sides of the rectangle are equal. Each angle in the rectangle is 90 degrees.
The difference between rectangle and square is the opposite sides of the rectangle are equal while all the sides of the square are equal.
This is why the rectangle is a different shape and the square a different one.
Following are the properties of the rectangle
- The rectangle is a quadrilateral.
- Its opposite sides are equal and are parallel to each other.
- Each of its angles is 90 degrees.
- Diagonal bisects each other. Bisect means cut each other into equal parts.
- The sum of its interior angle is 360 degree.
Semicircle
A semicircle is a two-dimensional geometric shape that forms half of a circle.

Pentagon
A pentagon is any five-sided polygon. It has five sides and five angles. “Penta” means five and “gon” means angle. The sum of all the interior angles for a regular pentagon is 540 degrees.
